What are 10-bit and 18-bit ADCs with blending ?
Moku:Pro blended ADCs technology
Moku:Pro incorporates a patented blending scheme to deliver a low noise floor and high dynamic range from 10 Hz to 600 MHz.
In test and measurement, flexibility has typically demanded tradeoffs in performance. Liquid Instruments has overcome these tradeoffs by blending signals from a high speed 5 GSa/s, 10 bit ADC and a lower speed 10 MSA/s 18 bit ADC.
Each of the four inputs on Moku:Pro has both high speed and low speed ADCs and the blending feature is transparent to the user and operational in all Moku:Pro instruments. The result is a single data stream with optimal signal-to-noise ration across all frequencies.
How does it work ?
One way to achieve blending is shown in the simplified diagram below.
The input signal is sampled by both the high speed and the low speed ADCs. The high speed path is filtered by a high pass filter whose response is the inverse of the low pass filter on the low speed path. The digital filter is matched to the analog low pass filter on the low speed path.
