The input-to-output latency depends on the low-pass filter bandwidth and the PID controller settings. The shortest latency is achieved by setting the low-pass filter to its highest cutoff frequency and using a faster controller. The table at the end provides reference points for input-to-output latency.

The delay can be verified using the Moku Frequency Response Analyzer or by injecting a known frequency tone with a 1 mHz modulation frequency to simulate a DC-like demodulation. Minimum delay can be observed by setting the low-pass filter’s corner frequency to 35.16 MHz to minimize its phase response impact and configuring the PID as a 0 dB Proportional controller to eliminate the effect of Integrator's phase response.

Under this configuration, the Laser Lock Box shows a 30-degree phase delay at approximately 228 kHz, attributed to internal digital signal processing. However, accounting for an additional analog input and output delay of around 300 ns, the 30-degree control bandwidth of the Laser Lock Box is approximately 108 kHz.

Low-pass corner 30° phase delay frequency Latency
1 MHz ~55 kHz  ~1.5 μs (Fast controller)
1 MHz ~5 kHz ~16.7 μs (Slow controller)
100 kHz ~16 kHz  ~5.2 μs (Fast controller)
100 kHz ~4 kHz ~20 μs (Slow controller)
